Update

So, I know that there have been various people waiting for an update from the Reading household. I guess that it is now time to inform family and friends of the event that will be happening in our little Reading family....we are expecting!!! And yes, that does mean a baby! After years and tears of frustration we are excited to announce that our little family of two will become a family of three on August 1st.
Here is an ultrasound that was done at 10 weeks on January 5th for proof that there is a little baby! The baby's heart rate was 180 beats per minute and all is going well.

Curiosity of a child

I have to share a funny conversation that I had with my eight year old niece, Lexie, on Christmas Eve during dinner.

Lexie looks over at me and asks in a serious manner, "Can you put kids on KSL?" I started laughing because I though..."hmmm, which sibling does she want to get rid of?" I also thought that her mom and dad sure must sell a lot of things on KSL Classifieds online for her to know about it. When I finally stopped laughing, I told her that you couldn't put kids on KSL. Lexie then asked what do parents do when they don't want their kids. I replied that most parents want and love their children. She sat there for a second and then said, "Well, what about the kids that are adopted?"

Okay, now I understood where this little eight year old mind was going. I thought...hmmm, how much do I tell her about foster care, parents terminating their rights, etc. which is basically what I deal with in my job. I thought that it would be best to leave it simple. I explained to her that sometimes parents cannot take care of their kids and so the kids are placed with a family who love and care for them until they can be adopted by a family who will love them forever.

It was an interesting conversation which started out as a good laugh and ended up being a good little teaching moment.

A week of fun!

This last week for Christmas has been a fun one being spent with family. It all started on Tuesday December 23rd. We went to dinner and then Desert Start Theater with my family and some friends (who are basically family anyway!). It was a fun night of laughs and entertainment.

Then on Christmas Eve we exchanged gifts with the Readings and then went to an extended family dinner. This is a dinner that is looked forward to because of the yummy meatballs that Mike's grandpa makes. Mmmm...I'm hungry for them just thinking about it!

On Christmas Day we spent time together opening up presents. Mike's mother brought over breakfast for us and Jeffrey and Keri that was yummy and I will have to get the recipe to. We were suppose to go to my parents' house for Christmas Day dinner, but with the weather reports and the wind we thought it would be best not to attempt the drive. We felt bad not going! So instead we stayed home and watched movies and played games and stayed in our pjs all day (well I guess I should say that it was only I that stayed in pjs). It was a nice relaxing Christmas!

Working 4 Utah

I've been meaning to post about this for quite some time now, but as the clock draws closer to the beginning of my weekend I just thought that I would share my thoughts. For those that don't know, on August 4th all Utah State employees were told by Governor Huntsman that they were going to 4-10's (that is 4 days working 10 hour days for those that can't figure it out). I'll admit at first I was very against it. I think that it was the inner teenager in me that was wanting to rebel because I was TOLD I was going to do it and not asked.

It was a struggle for a few weeks where my brain would shut off at 4 o'clock, after working 8 hours, to here I couldn't function. Once Labor Day weekend came around...boy was it worth it to work 4-10's. I love holidays that fall on a Thursday or a Monday which makes it so that I have a 4 day weekend.

The inner rebellious teenager has subsided and I am a happy state employee who thoroughly loves having 3 day weekends every weekend! Weekend here I come!

Girls Night Out

Yep, went and saw it. It was good...of course nothing is better than the book and your own imagination...but it was good.

Weekend of food

This weekend was all about eating. I guess you could say that we are preparing for Thanksgiving. On Saturday we went to the Lewis Pie Fest with extended family. Eating different kinds of pies and playing games...who could want more?

Then on Sunday we had a pre-Thanksgiving dinner at our house with the Lewis family and my Grandma Richards and my Auntie T. We got a turkey voucher last year as Mike's "Christmas bonus." So we only ended up paying about $2 for a turkey. And since I figured we would be getting another turkey this year that we should use the turkey we already have.

It was fun to have family over and have LOTS of yummy food and then play games!
