Forever Strong

Last night I was able to go to a premier showing of this great show.

And of course we were able to see a few famous people at the theater like:

Russell M. Nelson

Sheri Dew

Carole Mikita (news reporter off of Channel 5 News) and her husband Niel York (BYU History Department) and one of their daughters

Britani Bateman (actress off of The RM) and her husband J Bateman who was the composer for this movie

And of course there were other people from the movie that were introduced before the movie began...the director, the real coach which the story is based from, the coach that plays the coach, and many others.

It was a great movie and I'm sure that Highland High here in Utah is going to be popular from the movie. As I was watching the credits in the beginning and also at the end, I noticed that my friend's parents names were listed in helping with the movie. It was great to realize that I know such a famous family such as the Sivertsen family. I HIGHLY recommend this movie...so go see it!

Going into the Trenches

On Saturday September 13th we were able to borrow a trencher to do the trenches for our sprinklers. We were able to do the majority with it, but there were still some trenches that had to be dug out manually. With the help of the Lewis parents, Scott Reading, and Jeffrey Reading, we were able to get it almost completely trenched.

Then throughout the next week the Reading men slowly worked on starting to put in the sprinklers. On Saturday September 20th we worked out in the yard putting in sprinklers from 7 o'clock in the morning until 6 o'clock that evening...and we still weren't done. We are still slowly working on doing the final work such as putting the sprinkler heads where we want them. It is a work in progress though. Thanks to all that have come and helped us so far!

Just My Luck

I have no idea what it is with me and state cars, but we just don't get along sometimes. Today I had yet another incident of a flat tire like I did previously. I was driving on the freeway and got off on 45th because something didn't feel right. I pulled into a gas station near the car wash and walked around the minivan. Low and behold, a flat tire on the back passenger side! I looked up towards the gas station and saw the most glorious sight...not one, not two, but THREE highway patrol cars with men in them. I walked up and asked if one would help me. It's not like I can't change a tire, but I thought that I might as well utilize my resources. Two of the officers came over and started helping me. Then from across the street at another gas station an Incident Management Vehicle saw us and came over and help. With the help of these three "Good Samaritans" I was back on the road in about 10 minutes. I think that I've had my share of flat tires for the next few years.

1. I LOVE to drive in the rain! I love the rain. I love driving. And combining the two is just pure therapeutic for me.

2. I would rather read silly romance novels or young reader books than read any novel that makes me "think" or that is a biography of any sort. I'm all about reading fun stuff to "escape" from reality. And yes, since my last name is Reading I do love to read (since people ask that now and then).

3. I owned approximately 75 movies prior to getting married. Thanks to working at Blockbuster for 3 summers and knowing the sales coming up, setting movies aside to buy later, and getting employee discounts.

4. I afraid to donate blood. I would love to help others out by donating, but I didn't have a good experience in college. I tried to donate while at Ricks College, but I ended up passing out three times before leaving the chair (once while donating, and then twice afterwards). Not so good! And I was sick for the next day too and missed some of my classes. I do have a picture with my roommates afterwards to prove that I did try to donate.

5. I kind of have a new hobby that I do once in a while...refinishing furniture. I've refinished my Grandma Lewis' rocking chair, my dresser that I had growing up, and a garden bench. The next item I want to work on is the vanity dresser I had growing up. I've found that refinishing furniture is frustrating and therapeutic. I slowly work on the projects, but am pleased when they are finished.

6. I kind of have this fetish about having my personal space clean and organized. Like in my office I hate having piles of papers on my desk or floor. And at home I generally like to have things picked up and my counters clean. If you saw me as a youth and as a child you would not think that I am a "clean freak," but I am one now to an extent. I guess it all has something to do with having it be "your" place.

Now that I'm done racking my brain about this, I think that I will just let people read my post and not tag anyone. So, consider "all ya'll" to be lucky!

Remembering

Last night Mike and I started reminiscing 9/11 as we were getting ready for bed. I think that it was such a memorable event that everyone will remember where they were or what they were doing when they heard.

I remember that I was waking up to get ready for my classes at Utah State and on the radio I heard something about a plane crash. I went into the family room and turned on the tv to CNN. Of course all my 5 roommates came in and joined me in watching. I remember watching as the second plane hit the World Trade Center. It was such a sickening feeling to watch it happen. Then I watched as the towers crumbled to the ground. I was horrified and I was on the other side of the country! I cannot imagine what the poor people in the plane were thinking and feeling or the people that were in the New York area.

It was so hard to drag myself away from the tv to go to my classes. I had a test in my night class which I failed miserably since I wasn't in the mood to study. Luckily the next week our teacher admitted that giving us a test on that day was not the best idea and he dropped all of our test scored. My poor friend was upset because that was the best test score that she ever got in that class. But for about a week after 9/11 our tv was constantly turned on to CNN.

I was able to go to New York City while working in New York the summer of 2003. I was able to go to the World Trade Center site and see the crews working on removing and building the memorial. That place has a feeling of peace and reverence that one would never forget being there.

Upgrades

You got to love it when you get upgrades on things! Normally these things don't happen for me except for in one area...car rentals on the State. You see, we only have 4 State vehicles for our office and there are workers that love to hog them and drive them to court or home visits that are in the Salt Lake area. So, they came up with an agreement with Enterprise for car rentals that are charged to the State instead of the worker. It seems that every time I have rented from Enterprise I have received an upgrade, but today's upgrade was so hard to return. I had requested a little compact car as we are all informed to do...well, my little compact car turned into a very nicely lifted, extended cab, dark blue F150. (Sigh) Very nice! It is my husband's dream vehicle and I really like them too (for those that don't know...my absolute dream vehicle is a Jeep Wrangler). It was so hard to return that truck though. And the Enterprise workers don't know that I'm serious when I kept asking if they could just let me "keep it."But seriously, why do I not get any other "upgrades" in my life on any other thing other than when I rent a car on the State's time and money??? Such is life.

Great to be Eight

Today was a special day for our niece, Alexis Reading. She was able to be baptized a member of the Church. It was fun for us to be able to spend this memorable day with her!
