So, I don't know who to thank...my husband or my little brother. Either way, I ended up coming down with a head cold on Wednesday. Since then I have borrowed my little brother's "best friend" and have used up almost 2 boxes of tissues. I feel like I am Rudolph! And let's not forget the invisible man who seems to be sitting on my chest refusing to let me breathe and it's not like my nose is letting oxygen through either. And when I do get to breathe it seems like all I want to do is cough up a lung. You would think that I would have great abs by now from all the coughing, but nope...all I have is sore abs and a sore lower back from it. I've been laying around in bed for the last 3 days and I'm sick of being sick! I guess on the bright side, being sick is a new form of a diet. Nothing sounds good to eat, nothing tastes good to eat, and after a few bites of something I can't eat any more. Maybe I will lose some weight from this cold, but probably not.
But the thing that it bugging me the most about this cold is that I can't go see my new little niece yet!!! I think that they are suppose to come home from the hospital today. My husband jokes about how they will just hold Madison up to the window and I can see her from outside. Everyone says how cute she is and how much hair she has and all I can say is that I've seen the pictures.
Here's to hoping that I will get over this cold sooner!

Getting faster

For those of you that know, we used to have dial-up internet at home. Hence the reason that I typically post at work. But this weekend we got high speed wireless internet. We are piggybacking off of Mike's brother who lives next door. We are splitting the cost with them and it will be the same amount that we were paying for dial-up. It's so fast that it's hard to imagine all of our frustrations of previously trying to download something (that typically took a few hours and then you'd be disconnected shortly before it was completed...ARGH) to being able to have things downloaded a LOT quicker! So last night Mike got on the computer to test it out. It worked great for him and he checked his email and even our blog and other people's blogs (which we typically didn't do at home due to the time it took to view pictures). He accidentally shut the computer off before I got a chance to get on. So, I started it back up and tried to get on the internet, and of course the signal was low and so I couldn't post. There are a few little things that we are working on to make it better, but overall I am much happier at the speedy internet.

Getting high in the basement...
No...I'm not talking about the things that my foster kids do, it is the little "high" that we've been getting from all the painting we've been doing in our house. On Saturday we put on two coats of primer and then another coat on Monday. Then last night we actually put the paint on the walls downstairs. It looks really good! But the downfall of all of this is that our entire house smells like fresh paint, hence the little "high." We still have a ways to go in finishing the family room and my guess is that it will get worked on once in a while in between projects outside in the yard.Friday, April 18, 2008
Summer's a comin'
You know that summer is coming when you hear the tin can sound of music driving down the street really slow selling frozen items. Yes...I'm talking about the wonderful ice cream trucks. I was outside yesterday working on my project (refinishing a dresser) when I heard the ice cream truck. Um...hello...don't they remember that there was snow on the ground yesterday morning??? Having never grown up in a city where ice cream trucks make their rounds in the neighborhoods, it is a new experience and causes a thought to pop into my head. Those ice cream trucks are like the Pied Pipper trying to lure you out to them to feast upon those yummy fattening foods. It's like...here I am...come and get fat while I take all your money. But the neighborhood kids sure love the ice cream truck.

Are you my mudder?
So for the last week whenever people have asked about updates on the basement I tell them that "our mudder is coming." And if you say that phrase, many people thought I was just talking funny and saying "mother" instead. Anyway, so our "mudder" came last Tuesday and started working on the basement. Since they had a key (which they got last Monday when they were suppose to originally come), they came in every morning or some time during the day when we were at work and would add another coat or sand it down. They finished yesterday and it looks GREAT! I'm excited now because the next step that we will start working on this weekend will be priming and then painting! I'm a pro at painting because of all the many coats and different colors that we painted my bedroom when I was in high school and then also the experience of painting the upstairs hallway and my parents' bedroom during a Spring Break in college. So...bring on the paint and let the inner Michelangelo loose!

Duty Calls
Yesterday I got a piece of mail that my husband got a kick out of...I have been summoned for jury duty. So I just filled out the juror qualification questionnaire. It claims that the jury service I would be doing would be from June 2nd until the 27th. Like I don't have anything else better to do for a month than jury duty! I have only been summoned once before and I was able to get out of it because I was going to be back in school and away from the area. I got a kick out of the letter that they send with the questionnaire. My favorite lines are "The more important reward, however, is the pride you can take in service your community" and "I hope you are pleased at the prospect of jury service" and "Our justice system cannot function without you."...Um, obviously they have no idea that since working at my job I have absolutely NO faith in the court system and that they provide justice. The courts let my kids (and people) off the hook when they are obviously guilty and are not given any consequence for it. They obviously have no idea that I have a jaded view of the court system from dealing with it on a regular basis with my job. Let's just hope that I don't end up getting called to jury duty!
